Although you may not think about it, what you wear is influenced a lot by what people are watching on TV. Throughout the years popular TV shows have played a part in what people are wearing. Some of the shows are obvious such as Sex and The City, but there are others that quietly influence.
- Dynasty. This show may be responsible for the years of the shoulder pads. Dynasty was all about the combination of both power and fashion. The trend of big structured shoulders came from this, and you can still see this look in some ways today.
- Miami Vice. This one had a big influence on mens style. It was the beginning of wearing tee shirts with blazers, and for the brave ones, wearing pastel colors. Much of the fashion seen on the show was influencde by what was going on in Europe at the time.
- Charlies Angels. You can’t think about the fashion of the 70′s without picturing Charlie’s Angels. Pantsuits and jeans with bellbottoms were seen often on the show and in turn were soon seen on many women in the 70′s. But even more influencial was Farrah Fawcetts hairstyle, which was copied more than any other hairstyle.
- Ally McBeal. Ally McBeal changed the scope of the micro mini. For those who thought they couldn’t wear this type of skirt to work, she changed their minds. If an attorney could wear one, why not anyone else.
- Beverly Hills 90210. This TV show had a big influence on fashion for teenagers in the 90′s. Girls started wearing blazers that were over sized with the cuffs rolled up and floral prints. Both and boys and girls could be seen wearing jeans with ripped knees paired with leather jackets. Since the original series aired in the 90′s the fashion inspired by the show has never really gone away. You can still see updated versions on the jeans and leather along with cut off jeans shorts paired with a bustier.
