The dress that she wore in this movie was the most popular prom dress style for that year. This classic, gorgeous dress became so popular that it is still used today as a great formal style.
The Sabrina neckline on dresses and shirts for women first showed up in 1954. It was first seen worn by Audrey Hepburn in the movie Sabrina. This movie is actually very famous for having a lot of style, and those that follow fashion follow Sabrina.
When you think of Marilyn Monroe, most people think of the gorgeous white dress that she wears, while standing over an air vent. This style has been popular ever since The Seven Year Itch came out in 1955. Marilyn Monroe has been said to be one of the leading women in fashion ever since. She is one celebrity that people are still imitating, even 60 years later.
Some of the actresses and styles from the 1950′s started trends that are still alive and kicking today. From basic halter tops to boat neck dresses, it seems that the celebrities (or at very least the costume designers) of this decade really knew how to impress us for the long term. White became very popular for cocktail dresses and other formal wear during this decade, because of the styles that came from these and more movies. When looking at the style from the 1950′s, it is what we now know as "classic".
