The 1960′s boast some amazing movies, and along with those movies, there are many fashion trends that hit the nation and beyond. Along with movies of fashion, and that these styles came from, there were also a large number of other types of movies evolving. Some of the styles that became popular in this generation were psychological horror movies and Historically based dramas. Along with spaghetti westerns and other well known styles, there was a lot going on on the silver screen in the 60′s.
Mini skirts make a splash in the 60′s. Even though they were widely popular in Britain by the time Darling came out in 1965, the trend hadn’t hit the United States until this popular movie. When Julie Christine was wearing the fashion designs of Mary Quant during the film, they instantly became a hit in the United States.
Audrey Hepburn was a style setter throughout her career. In 1961, the popular movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s made a name for itself. Not only did clothing fashions thrive on this movie, and Hepburn’s decidedly amazing style, but the jewelry and accessories that were a large part of the movie also got their time in the lime light.
Not all fashion trends have to do with the clothing. When Cleopatra came out in 1963, the dresses of the Nile queen were not imitated. What was talked about and used in spades was the makeup. Women everywhere started copying the styles that Elizabeth Taylor used in her makeup for the movie.
Many of the styles that you think of today as inherently from the 1960′s came from these movies and more. Whether it is clothing, makeup, or other accessories, it doesn’t matter. They were all heavily inspired by those on the movie screens. From hot and new to historical, the movies tend to bring out the best in fashion.
