Many fashion trends through time have come from movie or television stars. This is not only counting clothing styles, but hair, makeup, and accessories, as well. Looking at some of the most followed trends in fashion, you will also see that they are popularized by either movies or television.
In the 90′s, there was the "Rachel" haircut, which was popularized by the character of Rachel in the hit television show, Friends. This haircut was so popular that most salons knew it by name, and didn’t need an example. In the 70, there was the "Streisand Sizzle", popularized by Barbra Streisand. Also in the 70′s, many women decided to take after Farrah Fawcett’s style, with the feathered hair style. The almost white coloring of Marilyn Monroe’s hair caught on very quickly, and has stayed popular through the years. Streaked hair became popular after Audry Hepburn wore hers in this fashion in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Even men are not, and were not, immune to the fashion styles of celebrity hair. For example, the Elvis Presley look became extremely popular for men of that era. The Beatle haircut is another example of a celebrity inspired men’s hair style.
Along with hair, makeup has also been hit by celebrity trend setters. In the 60′s, many women went from a red lipstick to an almost natural, pearly color. The reason behind this? Elizabeth Taylor preferred it. Almost over night, many women changed their style to more closely relate to hers. After this, in the 80′s deep reds came back in style with Madonna and other celebrities. The flashier, the better in this decade.
Today, we have a variety of these styles to go by. Not only that, but our current celebrities are also adding to the mania. For example, Angelina Jolie tends to wear bright red lipstick colors, and because of this, many women are following this trend.
